Kids head to the scenic trails of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx for a fun cross country event!
Perfect for both new and experienced runners, this fun three-event series is a great way for kids to stay active, build confidence, and experience the thrill of cross country!
Registration for this event is FREE and open to participants ages 2 to 18 of all abilities. Finishers will receive a New Balance souvenir. Please note that souvenirs are subject to availability.
Be sure to register for all the events in the series, though this is not required.
For participation in the Rising NYRR at the NYRR Cross Country Series Championships (Stage 3 only), please register for all three events in the series. Read the related section below for more details.

We’ve updated our website to increase inclusivity and representation in our races. Parents/guardians can register youth runners as girl, boy, or nonbinary. Visit our FAQ page for more information on how to update your profile.
Race numbers may be picked up at the NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub at 320 West 57th Street (between Eighth and Ninth Avenues) in advance of the event. Check back in for the dates and times available.
Parents and guardians of runners are encouraged to pick up race numbers at the NYRR RUNCENTER to avoid event-day lines.
On event day, race number pickup will be available at Race-Day Central, located near the Tortoise and Hare statue in Van Cortlandt Park. Pickup times are as follows:
Stage 3: 8:30 - 9:50 a.m.
Stage 2: 8:50 - 10:10 a.m.
Stage 1: 9:20 - 10:40 a.m.
If you plan to pick up a runner's race number on event day, please arrive at least 60 minutes before the start of their run.
Stage 1 participants should report to the staging area (starts separated by age group) 10 minutes before the start of their run. Please note that Stage 1 dashes will start on a rolling schedule; refer to the estimated start times listed below.
Stages 2 and 3 participants should report to the corrals 15 minutes before the start of their run.

Stage 1: Check back in for the event map. Participants will run short dashes of various distances. See the Schedule of Events section for the estimated distances each age group will run.
Stage 2: Check back in for the event map. Participants will run a 1-mile course that will start near the Van Cortlandt House Museum at the southern end of the park, continue along the edge of the Flats heading counterclockwise, and finish near the Tortoise and Hare statue.
Stage 3: Check back in for the event map. Participants will run a 1.5-mile course that will start near the Van Cortlandt House Museum at the southern end of the park, continue along the edge of the Flats heading counterclockwise, and finish near the Tortoise and Hare statue.

Bag check will be available from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Race-Day Central, located near the Tortoise and Hare statue in Van Cortlandt Park.
While we will continue to have clear plastic bags available at registration, we encourage you to use your own clear reusable plastic bag, no larger than 17" wide x 20" high x 7" deep, with the tag affixed. Only clear bags may be checked at bag check, we are unable to check opaque bags of any size.
NYRR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bags or items from bags checked at NYRR bag check.
Stage 1 finishers will receive a New Balance sweatband set. Stages 2 and 3 finishers will receive a New Balance bucket hat. Please note that souvenirs are subject to availability.
Souvenirs will only be distributed on the event day from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Race-Day Central, located near the Tortoise and Hare statue in Van Cortlandt Park. A youth race number must be presented to collect the event souvenir.
After the conclusion of the event, official results will be posted on results.nyrr.org.
Awards will be given to the overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place girl, boy, and nonbinary Rising NYRR at the NYRR Cross Country Series #2 - Stage 3 finishers. Awards will only be distributed on event day at the race finish.
Trophies will be presented to the first-place finishers in the girls, boys, and nonbinary divisions for the entire Rising NYRR at the NYRR Cross Country Series. Winners’ parents/guardians will be notified via email and trophies will only be distributed after the event at the NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub.
Winners must have completed all three races in the series. The winner for each category is determined by the lowest combined gender place across all three races. In the case of a tie, the winner will be chosen by the lowest cumulative time across all three races. Further ties will be broken by head-to-head comparisons for each race.

If NYRR cancels an offering on the direction of local, city, or state authorities, parents/guardians of participants will be informed as soon as possible. Events will not be rescheduled.
