NYRR Ted Corbitt 15K
Run to honor Ted Corbitt, the father of American distance running, on Saturday, December 6!
Join us on Saturday, December 6 at the 17th annual NYRR Ted Corbitt 15K as we honor the life and legacy of Ted Corbitt (1919–2007). Corbitt was the first president of New York Road Runners, the first African American to compete in the Olympic marathon, and an ultramarathon pioneer who ran more than 170,000 miles in his lifetime. Corbitt’s legacy goes beyond his own personal running achievements and includes setting standards for course measurement and age-group competition. Learn more about Ted Corbitt’s life and impact on our blog.
Finishers will receive a commemorative medal in his honor, and all participants will receive a New Balance long-sleeve tri-blend T-shirt.
Active NYRR members can read about and join the Member-Only Standby List here.
The Member-Only Standby List is a perk for NYRR members who are willing to participate in an NYRR race if entries become available after registration has closed. These individuals will be invited to register for the race on a first-come, first-served basis.

We at New York Road Runners believe running should be accessible to everyone. To help, we created NYRR Race Free to provide race fee assistance to those who qualify financially.
In 2024, we offered 1,000+ program slots and more than 3,000 complimentary race entries, including for the TCS New York City Marathon. Race Free applications that met the eligibility criteria were pooled based on previous participation and selected by borough or zip code until all slots were filled.
Check out the Race Free page this summer for updates on the 2026 application period. (Please note runners apply in 2025 for races in the calendar year of 2026.) Note: For consideration in the 2026 program, you will need to reapply and qualify once the application period opens—access is not guaranteed.
