The 2025 New Balance 5th Avenue Mile age-group heats will have a color-coded bib system. Your bib color corresponds to the corral that you will be in for your heat. Please look for the colored corral signs on 5th Avenue at the start on race day and enter the corral that matches your bib color.

The Member-Only Standby List is a perk for NYRR members who are willing to participate in an NYRR race if entries become available after registration has closed. These individuals will be invited to register for the race on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kids of all abilities and ages 2 to 18 are welcome to join the Back to School Mile at the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile race-day fun. Registration is required and completely FREE—made possible by the generosity of our community. Visit the event webpage to sign up and learn more.

On race day, number pickup will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Race-Day Central (located in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Ave and 81st Street).
Bib pickup will close at 11:45 a.m. Runners arriving to pick up their bib after that time will not be issued a bib and will not receive 9+1 credit for the race.
Show your race confirmation email or the QR code from your NYRR account to pick up your race materials. Proxy bib pickup is available for this race, so a friend or family member can pick up your race materials. The person will need the QR code for your NYRR account, along with a form of photo identification that corresponds to your NYRR account.
The race will take a straight line down 5th Avenue, starting near East 80th Street and finishing near East 60th Street.
First quarter-mile (to 75th Street): The race begins on a slight downhill.
Second quarter-mile (to 70th Street): This segment features a slight uphill.
Third quarter-mile (to 65th Street): There's another gentle downhill in this segment.
Fourth quarter-mile (to 60th Street): The final five blocks are on a flat surface.

Bag check will be available beginning at 6:00 a.m. close to the start and finish lines. You must pick up your bag at the location you dropped it off.
Planning to check a bag on race morning? While we will continue to have clear plastic bags available at number pickup, we encourage you to use your own clear reusable plastic bag, no larger than 17" wide x 20" high x 7" deep, with the tag affixed. Only clear bags may be checked at bag check, we are unable to check opaque bags of any size.
NYRR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bags or items from bags checked at NYRR bag check.
Following a successful 2024 pilot, NYRR will continue its partnership with Cup Zero to reduce single-use waste. Reusable hydration cups will be available at the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile and other select races throughout the year.
Runners are strongly encouraged to return their cups to the designated receptacles in the post-finish area. NYRR volunteers will be available to assist. Returning the cup ensures it can be cleaned and reused—supporting both the environment and the program’s success.

A live of feed of the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile finish line as well as live, unofficial results will be available in the NYRR App during the event.
For the pro field, awards will be presented on-site to the top men and women finishers.
For the NYRR Road Mile Championships, awards will be presented on-site to the top men and women finishers.
After the conclusion of the event, official results will be posted on results.nyrr.org.
Awards will be presented on site to the top three finishers in the overall men, women, and non-binary divisions. Runners who place in the top three of their age group will be able to claim an award in the days following the race by filling out our Age-Group Awards Claim Form.

As a World Athletics Label race, the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile operates under World Athletics rules and is subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money. Prize money is available in the Professional Athlete and NYRR Road Mile Championships heats, only. Entry into these heats is by invitation only; no entrant will be automatically placed in these heats. The minimum standards for inclusion in the NYRR Road Mile Championships are 4:20 for men, 4:55 for women, and 4:55 for non-binary categories. For a gender category to have a NYRR Road Mile Championships heat, a minimum of five entrants with the qualifying standard are required prior to August 15, 2025. For consideration, contact eliteathletes@nyrr.org no later than that date.
All prize money amounts are equal for men, women, and non-binary categories and subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money.

Halfway Leader Bonus: $1000 will be awarded to the halfway leader in the Professional Athlete heats. To collect this bonus, the halfway leader must finish the race in under 4:00 (men) or 4:32 (women). If they do not, the bonus will be awarded to the next-fastest runner at halfway who does break the above standards.

NYRR Road Mile Championships Heats
To be eligible for prize money in the NYRR Road Mile Championships, an athlete must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least June 7, 2025 through at least the date of the race.

Entry into these heats is by invitation only; no entrant will be automatically placed in these heats. Times submitted must be from no earlier than September 8, 2024. For a gender category to have a NYRR Road Mile Championships heat, a minimum of five entrants with the qualifying standard are required prior to August 15, 2025. For consideration, contact eliteathletes@nyrr.org no later than that date.
If NYRR cancels an offering on the direction of local, city, or state authorities, participants will be informed as soon as possible, including communication of participant resolution options. Events will not be rescheduled.
No Refunds: Entry fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred or transferred.

We at New York Road Runners believe running should be accessible to everyone. To help, we created NYRR Race Free to provide race fee assistance to those who qualify financially.
In 2024, we offered 1,000+ program slots and more than 3,000 complimentary race entries, including for the TCS New York City Marathon. Race Free applications that met the eligibility criteria were pooled based on previous participation and selected by borough or zip code until all slots were filled.

If you are an Athlete with Disability who needs a guide or support runner to participate in a NYRR event, please follow the process explained here. To request to register a support runner, the runner must fill out the following form. All requests must be placed by runners at least two weeks prior to the event.
