Join NYRR for a free 2.5-mile fun run at NYC DOT's Summer Streets in Long Island City, Queens!
This event is not eligible for a +9 race credit toward non-complimentary guaranteed entry to the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon. It is eligible for +1 volunteer opportunity. All volunteer opportunities are currently full for this race.

Ready to take your first step into running? The NYRR Start Line Series is a free, beginner-friendly fun run series designed to welcome everyone to the transformative power of running. In partnership with NYC DOT’s Summer Streets program, we’re bringing two exciting community fun runs to the streets of New York City this summer:
- July 26: Long Island City, Queens | 2.5 Miles
- August 23: Crown Heights, Brooklyn | 5 Kilometers (View Event)
Whether you run, jog, or walk, every step toward the start line is a powerful act of belonging. No matter your pace or experience, the NYRR Start Line Series invites you to become part of something bigger with free, supportive fun runs that celebrate movement and community. Join us for a free beginner-friendly info session designed to help you get fun run ready for the NYRR Start Line Series at NYC DOT's Summer Streets.
You'll learn everything you need to know to confidently toe the start line. Plus, runner bib pickup will be available on site during the session. Come get your questions answered, grab your bib, and get ready to run!

Numbers may be picked up at the NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub at 320 West 57th Street (between Eighth and Ninth avenues) on the following dates:

Runners are encouraged to pick up their bibs at the RUNCENTER to avoid race day lines. On race day, number pickup will be available from 6:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Race-Day Central located at Vernon Boulevard and 33rd Road.
Bib pickup will also be available at the free Beginner-Friendly Panel Session. Register here
Show your race confirmation email or the QR code from your NYRR account to pick up your race materials. Proxy bib pickup is available for this race, so a friend or family member can pick up your race materials. The person will need the QR code for your NYRR account, along with a form of photo identification that corresponds to your NYRR account.
On race day, number pickup will be available from 6:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Race-Day Central located at Vernon Boulevard and 33rd Road.
Bib pickup will close 10 minutes after the start time of the event.
Show your confirmation email or the QR code from your NYRR account to pick up your event materials. Proxy bib pickup is available for this event, so a friend or family member can pick up your event materials. The person will need the QR code for your NYRR account, along with a form of photo identification that corresponds to your NYRR account.
The start line will close 15 minutes after the official start time. Please review NYRR's policy on start and finish cutoff times here.
Vehicles will be permitted on 36th Avenue, and participants must stop as directed to allow cross traffic to pass.
The run starts on Vernon Boulevard and 34th Avenue, heading south on the northbound lanes. Runners continue to Mile 0.3 where they cross the Roosevelt Island Bridge access via 36th Avenue. At Mile 1, the course continues along Vernon Boulevard north of 43rd Avenue. There will be one aid station located at mile 1.2 north of 44th Avenue. Shortly after the aid station, there is a U-turn point just south of 44th Avenue at Mile 1.25.
The return leg continues north on Vernon Boulevard, passing Mile 2 just south of 38th Avenue, and recrosses the Roosevelt Island Bridge access point via 36th Avenue around Mile 2.2. The run finishes back on Vernon Boulevard at 34th Avenue on the southbound lanes.

On event day, bag check will be available from 6:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Race-Day Central located at Vernon Boulevard and 33rd Road.
Planning to check a bag on event morning? While we will continue to have clear plastic bags available at number pickup, we encourage you to use your own clear reusable plastic bag, no larger than 17" wide x 20" high x 7" deep, with the tag affixed. Only clear bags may be checked at bag check, we are unable to check opaque bags of any size.
NYRR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bags or items from bags checked at NYRR bag check.
